David Carmichael - Senior Advisor

David Carmichael is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Pacific Life Insurance Company. A 28-year veteran of Pacific Life, he has held his current position since 1992. During that time he has been instrumental in Pacific Life’s expansion into non-insurance businesses and the modernization of California law relating to investments and corporate organization of insurance companies. He has played key roles in Pacific Life’s changing of its corporate structure to better access capital markets and has been instrumental in several debt offerings by the Company. In addition to being responsible for the legal and regulatory affairs of Pacific Life, his current responsibilities include the growing complex areas dealing with accountability and ethical business practices. Mr. Carmichael started his legal career in 1967 with a large Los Angeles based law firm. Moving to Orange County in 1972, he became general counsel of The Housing Group, a real estate developer, until joining Pacific Life in 1977. He received both a Bachelors Degree in business administration and a Juris Doctor from UCLA.
